Well that explains that, I guess.

Must meet the aesthetic standards of Tumblr. Unattractive themes may be rejected at our moderator’s discretion.

That theme is not unattractive*. And it’s a good deal better than most of the other trash in the Theme Garden. (Compare, compare.)

The e-mail I sent to Tumblr about its absence last week still hasn’t been replied to, either. So I don’t like my chances of finding out any more information about this.

I don’t think Tumblr and I agree on aesthetics, so I guess I’m not making themes any more. If anyone wants to use Peacock Tail, I’ll happily give the code to anyone that wants it, to do whatever they like with. Ditto for Dayvan Mini, which I mentioned last week.

Update: It looks like I left a reference to an external (stat tracking) js file in the code I submitted. I removed it and re-submitted it. That’s not an “aesthetic” factor, so I’m not sure if it will make a difference, but we’ll see. If that does turn out to have been the problem, I will humbly rescind my initial annoyance, but I still can’t believe it took this long to find out the theme was denied and the reason for it, and that I was quoted aesthetic reasons for a theme that is better than most other themes I’ve seen. I also know Tumblr have edited themes before approving them, so why not mine? All I did was remove a line of HTML.

  • There’s usually a sidebar there showing people you follow, but that’s applied on a group tumblelog, so it doesn’t display.
