Any Romney-Ryan painted nails out there?

Have you been wondering whose election coverage to follow? With the DNC looming (cheatsheet: the one we actually care about), it’s about time to make a decision and commit to someone’s coverage. The New York Times is the obvious, safe choice but a more adventurous consumer might take a risk on Buzzfeed’s unique mix of noise and bullshit and honestly-not-bad coverage. There is, however, a more unlikely candidate: Tumblr made the interesting decision to send correspondents to Tampa and Charlotte this year. Don’t stop and think about it — in fact it’s best if you don’t think about it at all — this is the coverage you’ve been looking for.

Any Romney-Ryan painted nails out there? Yes indeed, the nail polish colors on these fingers don’t run, although you’ll note the middle finger is just a little smudged. I think the subtext here is obvious. Clever stuff from Tumblr. This is some disarmingly insightful political commentary, people. As the halfway point of this editorial experiment whizzes past, editor Liba Rubenstein’s words ring loud and clear: “Our goal is not to play in the arena of traditional political coverage.” It doesn’t get more non-traditional than this, folks. Here’s to you, Tumblr, the newsroom of the future. I hope. +FOLLOW
