One of the most magical things about the internet is that it’s a whimsical rabbit hole of discovery – we start somewhere familiar and click our way to a wonderland of curiosity and fascination we never knew existed. Like curesleepapnea.com, which seems to be run by head curator Maria Popova. Or gastricbypassrisk.com, also a Popova site. Or caninediabetesfacts.com. Or liposuctionrisksinfo.com (the only one she made an effort to anonymize, I think).
It seems to me there’s no doubt as to the purpose of these sites. But why is Maria Popova running sites that are usually the domain of internet scammers? And why isn’t she at least anonymizing the whois records? (I found all of these by accident by visiting curatorscode.com, which was down and revealed a very illuminating directory structure.) Is her social media strategy working at all, I wonder?
