I’ll admit, I shared that Buzzfeed post, People Who Say They’re Moving To Canada Because Of ObamaCare, with my friends today. It’s a fun post. Those tweets are outrageous! How could people be so stupid? They’re so dumb that I’m moving to Canada!!!
But it turns out that searching Twitter for “moving to canada” after a big SCOTUS ruling and then posting the 17 stupidest sounding tweets might mean that some of those people were joking and you never noticed, because you were in a hurry to share funny jokes with the Internet. I understand. These things happen. But man, those people are going to be pissed off.
Click the screenshot above for more examples of people that are kinda pissed about being featured in a Buzzfeed article!
I love this phenomenon. The number of media required to produce this, the layers of possible meaning, the realm of criticisms from strangers that one invites by writing a joke on one’s phone…
Look at this fucking shitheap of low-hanging fruit that, appropriately enough, has piled up here on Tumblr.
At the top are the conservative idiots that are done with this shit and want to move to Canada. Do you promise, guys? Ha ha ha!
They used to be safe in their Conservative bubble, where people agreed with them, but now we have Buzzfeed. Buzzfeed, with its stable of journalistic talent, changing up the blogging game, changing up the whole game, is saying those guys are stupid! Great piece, Buzzfeed. Who will you mock today? Maybe some people that believe in God would be funny?
But wait! Here’s another Internet Fun Site to save the day: some of the people who said they were moving to Canada were just using one of the oldest jokes in the book! The stupid Internet Fun Site is excoriating the other stupid Internet Fun Site for excoriating the stupid people who made a stupid joke on a stupid social network they all use for stupid jokes!
Nick, thank you for jumping in with the “media phenomenon” spin on all this. I hate to be all “I’m better than you” on a Friday morning, but holy fuck do I not give a shit about one single part of this asshole daisychain.
You have been reading a blog.
